Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plays a critical role in global energy supply, serving residential, commercial, and industrial markets worldwide. Due to its physical properties, LPG is naturally odourless and must be odorized to ensure rapid leak detection and compliance with safety regulations. YZ Systems provides proven, field-tested LPG odorization solutions designed to ensure safety, accuracy, and full traceability across a wide range of LPG applications.

YZ Systems leverages decades of odorization expertise to deliver reliable, fully automated and low-emission solutions tailored specifically for LPG storage, transportation, and transfer operations.

Typical LPG Applications

YZ odorization systems are designed for all critical LPG handling points, including:

  • Truck and railcar loading gantries
  • Bulk LPG storage terminals
  • Import/export terminals
  • Cylinder filling plants
  • Ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship transfers

Each application may present unique flow conditions, environmental constraints, and regulatory requirements. YZ Systems solutions are designed to adapt to these constraints while maintaining precise odorant injection under all operating conditions.

Application Example – LPG Truck Loading Odorization

Application Context

One of the largest independent bulk liquid storage operators in Northern Europe required a dedicated LPG odorization solution for truck transfer operations. The site manages the transport of up to 120,000 tonnes of LPG per year, contributing significantly to regional energy supply.

The installation environment was particularly challenging, featuring a coastal, salt-fog atmosphere with high humidity and exposure to harsh weather conditions. The customer required a robust, turnkey solution able to operate reliably outdoors while ensuring precise and traceable odorant injection.

Technical Challenge

  • Continuous odorization of LPG during truck loading operations
  • Independent dosing control for multiple road loading gantries
  • Stable injection of ethyl mercaptan, a highly volatile odorant with a low boiling point (~35°C at atmospheric pressure)
  • Compliance with ATEX requirements, customer HAZOP, and environmental constraints
  • Fully automated operation with minimal operator intervention

YZ Solution – ZEO® Zero Emission Odorizer

YZ Systems supplied a ZEO® 8400 Zero Emission Odorization System, purpose-designed for LPG applications.
